Facebook has been predicted to reach its 1 billionth user in August this year. This figure is equivalent to one seventh of humanity. Expected growth is not coming from countries such as the US and UK, but from Brazil and India. Even though Facebook is still growing it is currently the most popular social networking site in the world, with sites such as Twitter and LinkedIn following behind with around 150 million users each.
New social media sites continue to be launched all the time around the world with only very few catching on and making it into the popular scene. New site Pinterest is one of the lucky few that have made it in the social media world and the site is currently ranked number 3 in the US. Pinterest is a photo blogging site that allows users to upload photos, use hashtags and comment as well as many other options. The site also allows companies to include prices and photos. For example, if you were a designer and you posted a picture of a new item of clothing, Pinterest allows you to link the photograph to your online site and you are also able to include the price of the item.
Pinterest is not only a great site for the public but is also a great source for businesses as it allows them to easily advertise their products. Not only is the site easy to use but as with many other social media sites it is also free. The “Pin it” button is very similar to the “Like” button on Facebook. This button allows consumers of products to add images of a brand or product from a company’s pages directly to their board. Pinterest is a very helpful tool for businesses to get their brand out there.
Pinterest is a great site but there are also some warning bells for companies who are keen to remain in control of the image of their brand.
