You probably think that in this day and age anyone with an internet connection has some form of engagement online – especially businesses. However, Australian small businesses are still not taking advantage of what the internet can offer and are suffering the consequences.
According to MYOB, businesses using social media were 56% more likely to see increased profits than those who don’t.
Though more and more businesses are turning to the internet to boost their exposure, still less than half (44.6% – ABS) do not have any form of online presence, and the number of those who do is climbing very slowly.
MYOB CEO Tim Reed believes, “it’s due to a lack of confidence in knowing how to employ social and other online tools that is holding others back”. Over half of respondents said they would support a political party if they offered free training on how to use the internet and social media to boost their business.
So what can you do to reap the benefits of having your business online?
- If you’re a retail business, open an e-commerce store on your website
- If you don’t have a website already, get one! It’ll hardly cost you more than what you spend on coffee in a month, and you’ll no longer be invisible online
- At the very least, set up a Facebook, Twitter, and/or LinkedIn profile. They’re simple to use and require very little time and effort to maintain
If you’re too time-poor to get your brand out there, contact Infodec Communications today and we’ll help you get started.
