LinkedIn is now one of the most popular ways for people to find out more about you and your company and also to keep track of what you are up to. For job seekers a good LinkedIn profile is just as important as a good Resume.
Since our last blog about LinkedIn, the professional social networking site has gained over 15 million new members. As of the final quarter of 2012, LinkedIn has reached a milestone with 200 million members. Also, revenue is up 81% compared to last year. With so many people turning to the site to manage their professional connections, LinkedIn is becoming an increasingly powerful tool for networking and exposure.
To celebrate their membership milestone, LinkedIn has created an infographic (which can be seen here) outlining some interesting statistics. For example:
- The USA has the most members, with 74 million
- India has 18 million, United Kingdom and Brazil have 11 million each
- Canada has 7 million members and Australia 3 million
- 2 new members join every second
According to the infographic, the most common names of Australian users were John and Sarah, Marcelo and Ana for Brazil, Jan and Monique for the Netherlands, and Amit and Neha for India.
LinkedIn also sent out congratulatory emails to users in the top 5% most viewed profiles of 2012. I wonder if LinkedIn sent one to President Barack Obama, with an impressive 526,270 profile views received in 2012.
Aside from popular features such as groups (which is users’ favourite way of making contacts) and people searching, you can set up your LinkedIn profile to share posts from Facebook, Twitter, WordPress and more. There is also the opportunity to do the reverse and share LinkedIn posts on these social networks. So you can really cover all your bases with one piece of news or information.
Because it is a professional social networking site it’s important to keep your LinkedIn profile up to date and interesting.
