Most of you have heard about Instagram. Those who don’t use it probably think it’s solely for selfie-taking teenagers and budding photographers. However, the photo editing and sharing app recently released a new video feature, which could mean great things for your brand. As they say, pictures (and videos!) speak louder than words.
Your business doesn’t necessarily have to be a clothing brand or travel agency to produce interesting and eye-catching visual material.
Take PayPal, for instance. If you haven’t used PayPal before, it’s essentially a secure way to pay for things online using your credit card or bank account. You may be saying to yourself, “what on earth could a payment service use Instagram for?” Well, as it turns out, everything! The US-based service features “guest” photographers who take photos on their behalf to share the products and experiences that PayPal enables. This seemingly odd Instagram account has almost 5,000 followers.
What can you do to take advantage? You can’t really go “wrong” on Instagram. Follow these tips and you’ll have an expert profile in no time:
- If you sell physical products, take photos, photos, and more photos! A short video demonstration wouldn’t go astray, either.
- Tag your photos and videos with appropriate #hashtags. I can’t stress this enough – unless you tag your posts, you’re essentially invisible. Short, relevant hashtags are best (e.g. a clothing brand could tag their photos #fashion #style etc.)
- Encourage follower interaction – offer incentives to followers who tag their photos with a specific hashtag of your choosing (this could be the name of your business or product, for example).
- Follow, follow, follow! Follow local businesses and engage with their photos and chances are, they’ll do the same for you.
So whether you’re a makeup artist or even a builder, you can definitely benefit from Instagram. If PayPal can do it, so can you.
